The game featured Mark McGwire's 50th home run of the 1998 season in the seventh inning off pitcher Willie Blair. The home run made Mark McGwire the only player in Major League history with three consecutive fifty home run seasons. It also tied him with Babe Ruth for the quickest to reach the fifty home run plateau.
