Purchased by Sir William Lowther, 3rd Bt. (1727-1756; posthumous list of pictures in his London house, no. 51), and by inheritance at Holker through his cousin Lord George Augustus Cavendish (d.1794) and the latter's nephew George Cavendish, 1st Earl of Burlington (1754-1834).
