Oval black box, the cover centred with an oval gouache miniature depicting a young peasant couple and a seated onlooker within an architectural landscape, the cover bordered in piqué posé with a bright-cut gold double band enclosing bands of silver circles interspersed with four engraved silver cartouches, the base inlaid with a two-colour gold and silver bouquet of flowers, the reeded gold thumbpiece chased with a shell flanked by laurel swags
