Slightly tapering rectangular étui-à-tablettes with domed cover, of grey lacquer, the sides of the cover applied with pierced and engraved gold inscription 'SOUVENIR D'AMITIE', both sides of the base inset with oval miniatures under glass depicing a couple at an Altar of Love and a peasant girl with dog and pigeon, painted en grisaille on a pink ground, within pierced and engraved leaf borders with ribbon-tie cresting, the two-colour gold mounts stamped with stylized acanthus leaf borders with bright-cut edges, inside a gold-topped pencil and tablets
