bearing marks resembling to the maker's mark of Franois Dominique Poitreau, the charge of Jean-Jacques Prevost and the discharge of Éloy Brichard, struck with inventory number 216
Rectangular gold box, the cover, sides and base inset with rectangular panels of mother-of-pearl engraved with exotic plants and applied with Chinoiserie scenes in carved and engraved abalone shell and chased, burnished and engraved gold, depicting playful chinamen in exotic landscapes at various pursuits including riding on a see-saw, playing shuttle-cock, blowing soap bubbles, whipping a spinning top, blowing darts, and, on the base, performing a balancing game; the gold cagework mounts with wavy reeding and slightly flaring thumbpiece
