A massive French silver presentation vase
Maker's mark of A. Aucoc, Paris, circa 1900
On silver-mounted detachable square pink marble base, the octagonal vase on spreading foot chased with foliage and with plain panels with gadrooned knop above, the lower part of the facetted shaped body chased with similar panels with applied acanthus foliage between, the upper part repoussé with two satyr's masks in circular medallions with bands of scrolls enclosing flowerheads above, the waisted neck with water-lily border and flanked by four infant satyrs holding drapery and vine foliage festoons, the base with plaque engraved with presentation inscription dated from 1902 to 1909, fully marked and stamped A AUCOC, with plated liner

Lot Essay

This trophy was a prize for target shooting at the renowned Tir au Pigeon competition held at the Bois de Boulogne in Paris in the early part of this century.
The inscription on the detachable plinth reads " 4 Juin 1902 Rincon Gallardo: 27 Mai 1903 Baron A de Cavernost: 1 Juin 1904 Charles Storms: 24 Mai 1905 Prince A. de Caraman Chimay: 23 Mai 1906 James H. Hannay: 29 Mai 1907 Robert Gourgaud: 5 Juin 1908 Gaetan Carlier: 18 Juin 1909 Vicomte de Paris"
