A Continental silver-gilt two-handled bowl
First half of the 17th century, probably Italian or Iberian, struck twice with indistinct mark R? crown above
Shaped oval on spreading gadrooned foot, the raised bowl engraved in the centre with a bird standing on a branch within chased waisted square cartouche, the interior of the sides engraved with two panels of reeds and panels of scroll ornament, the exterior with flowerheads and similar scroll work, the partly flattened border with four cast and applied conch shells and beaded scroll handles terminating in fluted balusters, engraved beneath with ?S58p and stamped S8, marked on base
