Lot Essay

This bracelet is a fine example of Mauboussin's creations at the height of the Art Deco period, namely the year 1925, when the "Exposition des Arts Décoratifs" took place. According to Marguerite de Cerval in her book "Mauboussin", this was the moment when the famous French firm came into their own as one of the top Parisian houses.

Black and white, manifested in onyx and diamonds, were the preferred colours at the exhibition. The highly geometric onyx panels of this bracelet, echoed to the interior by diamond rectangles, are quintessential Art Deco. In addition, the overall outline of the jewel is streamlined, illustrating the "Machine Aesthetic" that had found favour with the designers.
