Lot Essay

The enamelled linen of this ensemble is a feature rarely seen in jewellery. As Cartier has always been praised for their innovations, it is no surprise that they created the set. In perfect condition, each white disc is complemented by three fancy-cut rubies. Since the London address on the fitted case is 4 New Burlington Street, the jeweller's location from 1902 until 1909, and there is no New York address, the branch opened in 1909, it can be assumed that the dress-set was executed between 1902 and 1909, a dating that would be appropriate for the delicate style.
