The above shirt was given to Johnstone by his Hibernian playing colleague Lawrie Reilly after the match between Scotland and Denmark played at Hampden Park on 12th May 1951, Scotland defeating Denmark 3-1, with Reilly scoring one goal. As Johnstone played in the above match at No.8 it must be assumed that Reilly and Johnstone swapped shirts at the end of the match.
