Lot Essay
The above lot is the property of Paul Waller and was presented to him by Diego Maradona's long-time friend and personal manager Jorge Czyterspiller in June of 1981. Paul Waller was in Buenos Aires for three days in June 1981 as principal dancer with the Israel Ballet. After the opening night's performance Waller was introduced to Maradona and his manager Czysterspiller at a dinner reception and was subsequently invited along with his colleagues to a match played by Maradona's team Boca Juniors the following night. The day after the match Waller was summoned from his hotel room to the reception where he was greeted by Maradona's manager Jorge Czyterspiller who then presented the shirt and autographed ball to Waller and informed Waller that it was a shirt worn by Maradona. Accompanying the above lot is a photocopy of a page from a Buenos Aires newspaper dated 21st June 1981 which relates to Maradona's association with the Ballet production in which Waller was the principal dancer.
