In the 1907-08 Scottish Cup final played at Hampden Park on 18th April 1908 before 55,000 spectators, Celtic defeated St. Mirren 5-1, with goals from Bennett (2), Hamilton, Somers and Quinn.
The above Cup winner's medal was the last of three won by Peter Somers with Celtic, the others being in 1904 and 1907. Somers joined Celtic in December 1897 from Hamilton Athletic and left the club to join Blackburn Rovers in February 1900 for (200. He re-joined Celtic in 1902 with the transfer fee being (120 and it was no coincidence that during this period Celtic dominated Scottish football. He was part of the Celtic side which won five League Championships in a row between 1905 and 1909 and it was also during this period that he made his four appearances for Scotland at full International level. In 1910 he joined Hamilton Academicals and retired from playing the following year before becoming a director of the club in May of 1912. Somers, following the amputation of part of one of his legs, died on 27th November 1914 at the very young age of 36.
