Rangers won the Division 1 Championship this season with 51 points, Celtic being runners-up on 45 points.
Robert Gordon Campbell was born on 27th January 1883 and played for Kintore Village F.C., Crosshill Winton, Rutherglen Glencairn and Queen's Park Victoria XI before joining Queen's Park in August 1904. He joined Celtic on 26th June 1905 and played only a handful of matches for the Parkhead club before being transferred to their City rivals Rangers in January of 1906. Known as "Baby" he was likened to the legendary Rangers and Scotland player Nicol Smith and from being a full-back with Celtic he was often played at centre-forward for Rangers and, indeed, he scored six goals in a friendly match against Morton when the Ibrox side defeated them 7-1. He was also a keen cricketer, playing for Clydesdale and prior to his transfer to Kilmarnock in 1914, Celtic played Rangers in his benefit match at Ibrox on 19th August 1912. Ironically, the year of the benefit match coincides with the above Championship win when his former club were runners-up. After a season and a half with Kilmarnock he joined Ayr United in December of 1915 and retired from playing in 1917. In October of 1926 he became a Rangers Director and he remained in this position with the club until his death on 31st May 1943.
