Sale room notice

Dr. Hans-Ulrich Beck has kindly pointed out that the collector's number is that of Jacob Helmolt (1747-1808), and that this fits into the series of the Months of the Year by Cats dated 1791 from which Helmolt also owned the Months April, May and July, inscribed with his numbers 447-8 and 450, now in the Rijksprentenkabinet, Amsterdam, and the Collection de Grez, Musée des Beaux-Arts, Brussels.

Lot Essay

Another, less detailed version of this is in the Amsterdams Historisch Museum, Beschrijving der schilderijen, tekeningen, prenten, prentwerken en boeken in het Museum Fodor te Amsterdam, Amsterdam, 1863, no. 329, as part of a series of the Months of the Year. A version of another drawing from that series was sold, F. von Artus, Frankfurt, 26 September 1970, lot 15, fig. 13. The latter and the present lot would therefore seem to be part of a second version of the Amsterdam series.
