Each of octagonal form on four scroll feet, the base pierced with stylised floral- and shell ornaments against partly sanded ground, the sunken base with raised and knobbed baluster stem, applied with drapes, tassels and floral ornaments, vase-shaped sockets

Lot Essay

Candlesticks of this kind are rare, only one other example of candlesticks with pierced bases are known, see A.C. Beeling, Nederlands Zilver 1600-1813, part III, Groningen 1986 pp. 256-257 with illustration.
This almost identical pair has been made by the Amsterdam silversmith Pieter Robol I in 1727 and 1728
