A rare Frisian silver marriage casket
Maker's mark indistinct, Frisia circa 1630
Of rectangular form, on four ball supports with stepped rim, the front finely engraved with two ovals depicting elgenat scenes, flanked by stiff foliage and leafage, with gilt cherub-shaped applied locket, the sides each with an engraved oval depicting two elegant scenes in a landscape, flanked by auricular ornaments and leafage, the back with The Last Supper in architectural setting and flanked by auricular ornaments and floral ornaments and scrolls, the cover stepped and the cover half-round shaped finely engraved with a circle depicting two a male and female figure flanked by auricular ornaments surmounted by a text; In Liefde Bestaet het/Getrout tot in den Doot, with gilt foliate swing handle in foliate and scroll surround alterated by fruits
