Rebecca sitting on the edge of the well, leaning with her left elbow on a vessel, the bracelet on the left arm with monogram M for Masini, on a circular base with the title Rebecca inscribed in Hebrew characters, and to the reverse inscribed Prof:G:MASINI/Prop:ta Frat:lle LAPINI/Firenze 1890, fingers of left hand and both earrings missing and minor damages to drapery, slightly weathered

Lot Essay

Girolamo Masini was born in Florence in 1840, where he also died in 1885. He was a pupil of Costoli and during his life he exhibited in Turin, Milan, Bologna and Carrara. (James Mackay, The Dictionary of Western Sculptors in Bronze, Woodbridge, 1977, p. 254)
