Lot Essay

This elegant Nähtischen, of Halbkugel form, relates to the so-called Globustischen, probably a speciality of Viennese cabinet-makers, and may be inspired by one of the the printed furniture designs published by the design school of Carl Schmidt. (H. Kreisel G. Himmelheber, Die Kunst des Deutschen Möbels, Mnchen, 1986, Vol. III, fig. 354.) A similar table in the collection of the Bayerischen Nationalmuseum, is illustrated in H. Kreisel G. Himmelheber, ibid, fig 376.
