Creche idea (recto)

The female figure leaning over a dustbin in the lower left area of the sheet is a device which Spencer also used for one of the illustrations for 'September' in his Almanack, published by Chatto and Windus in 1926. Many years later he worked up the drawing into a larger oil, The Dustbin, Cookham, (Royal Academy of Arts, London), 1956, (Bell 422).
