Lot Essay

The present drawing was probably executed while Spencer was working at the Sandham Memorial chapel, Burghclere between 1927 and 1932, the first of the panels for the chapel to be completed was Scrubbing the Floor, 1927, (Bell 130b). (See catalogue notes to lots 33, 78 and 250).
