Lot Essay

Wendy Baron dates this drawing to 1897 as it was published in The Year's Art, a magazine which illustrated events that had ocurred the previous year. The architectural background must therefore have been taken from imagination and sketches made in Venice in 1895-96.

We are very grateful to Dr. Wendy Baron for her assistance in cataloguing this lot.
