Lot Essay

Sickert had a studio in Noel Street (later Road), Islington, from 1924 onwards, and other studios in Islington from 1927, until he and his wife left the borough and London for good in 1934. Other Islington paintings from this period include 'The Garden of Love', or 'Lainey's Garden' (Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge).

We are very grateful to Dr. Wendy Baron for her assistance in cataloguing this lot.
