3 volumes, 4 (291 x 230mm). 2pp. subscribers' list in vol.I, expanded list in vol.II. 306 fine hand-coloured etched plates after Eleazar, Elizabeth and Fortinalus Albin, by Henry Fletcher and others, coloured by Eleazar and Elizabeth Albin. (Plates 83 and 95 in vol.I with neatly repaired tears affecting plate area, neat repairs to text leaves Aa1-2 in vol.I, and B1 in vol.III, some light browning to plates in vol.II.) Contemporary calf gilt (joints and head and foot of spines neatly repaired). Provenance: Burnham family (?Viscount Burnham, armorial bookplate).

FIRST EDITION, SECOND ISSUE, OF THE FIRST BIRD BOOK WITH COLOURED PLATES. This second issue has cancellans title-leaves that were reset with altered wording and a new imprint and date. The first issue is dated 1731-34-38. This copy has two interesting ephemeral items tipped into the front of volume I comprising: a 1p. engraved prospectus for A Natural History of Birds, [n.d. but circa 1726], 257 x 192mm. (neat repairs) and an autograph manuscript receipt signed, dated 'July the 11 - 1726', Received of Sr William Archer the sum of too [sic] Guineas being the first payment towards a history of Birds which I promis to Deliver as soon as finished on the payment of too [sic] guineas more Elizabeth Albin'.
