Lot Essay

Charles Hayes was the son of William Hayes (1735-1802), also an ornithological artist, and he learnt to paint under the supervision of his father.
An album of 144 watercolours by Charles Hayes, entitled Portraits of British Birds, was sold at Christie's London, 25 October 1995, lot 17 (46,000).
