John Latham's allegmeine Uebersicht der Vgel mit gemalten Kpfern aus dem Englischen bersetzt. Nuremberg: 1792-1798. Volume of plates only, 4 (241 x 205mm). Without text. Six engraved titles, each with hand-coloured vignette, 134 hand-coloured engraved plates only (of 135, lacking number 120, 13 plates with appreciable spotting and light dampstaining, plates 116-119 and 121 with plate number shaved, first title with small repaired tears and biro marks to outer blank margin.) Contemporary half calf (extremities slightly rubbed). Provenance: Riga library (two early ink stamps on title).
A good selection of plates from vols.I-III of the German translation of Latham's A general Synopsis of birds. A fourth volume containing 43 plates was published in 1811-1812. Cf. Anker 280; cf. Nissen IVB 533; sold as a collection of plates not subject to return.
