A FINE COPY OF THE FIRST EDITION. The plates were prepared under the supervision of Sir Victor Alexander Brooke (1843-1891) by Joseph Wolf (who provided many of the drawings) and lithographed by J.Smit. Unfortunately Sir Victor died before he was able to prepare the requisite text. Sclater was given access to the manuscript and, in partnership with Oldfield Thomas (who provided the synonymy and scientific descriptions), saw the work through the presses.
