FIRST EDITION, FOLIO ISSUE of this fine sequel to the works of Levaillant and Bourjot Saint-Hilaire. As the announcement on the lower wrapper makes clear the intention was that the work should consist of "1 volume in-folio ou in-4, illustr d'environ 150 planches, sur grand jsus, en 30 livraisons mensuelles qui paraitront compter de mai 1857. Chaque livraison 16fr. in-folio ou 13fr. in-4". In the event publication stopped after the 12th part, with only 47 plates having been issued. The first 15 plates, by Blanchard printed by Lemercier, have the branches coloured, the remainder, by Daverne printed by Juliot, leave the branches uncoloured.
