Lot Essay

Gillows supplied related heavily-gadrooned and reeded furniture to John, 1st Earl Brownlow (d. 1853) either for his London house in Carlton House Terrace or for Belton House, Lincolnshire. Two writing-tables, both attributed to Gillows, were sold by Lord Brownlow, Belton House, Christie's house sale, 30 April 1984, lots 85 and 89.
