The first with deep sides with slightly inverted rim covered with a thick and bubbly pale blue glaze with several purple and violet splashes thinning at the rim and pooling around the unglazed foot, the base glazed, three rim chips with gilt-lacquer repairs, crack to rim; the second covered with a thick pale blue slightly crackled glaze with splashes of crimson to the interior and exterior, the rim with only a thin transparent glaze layer, the unglazed foot showing the dark grey body, the recessed base covered in glaze, rim crack

Lot Essay

These two bowls have for many years formed part of an extensive private collection of Chinese ceramics, and it would appear that a Eumorfopoulos label from a Ru-type Buddhistic lion has at some stage been erroneously stuck on to the first bowl in this lot. However, this bowl has been carefully compared to the bowl in the Eumorfopoulos Collection catalogue, and is definitely that listed as B78.
