A FINE LARGE GILT-SPLASHED BALUSTER VASE, GU
xuande six-character mark, 17th century
Cast in two sections, the rounded body at the shoulder with a petal band cast in low relief and set with four Buddhistic lion masks divided by sinuously coiled chilong, the long flaring neck set with two chilong forming handles, above double raised bands and beneath a wide flaring rim, a slightly raised band imitating bamboo at the mouthrim and foot, the olive-brown surface patination with irregular gold splashes
