Meiji Period (Late 19th Century)
The dark brown lacquer ground sparsely sprinkled with large-flaked nashiji, over which are scattered many dragonflies executed in raden, gold and pewter-coloured takamakie, with black lacquer details to the eyes, the rims of the box and cover also in pewter-coloured lacquer, the interior and base sparse nashiji similar to the exterior, a seal applied in gold lacquer to the interior of the cover, the corners of the cover cracked
