Impressed Makuzu, Meiji Period (Late 19th Century)
Naturalistically modelled as a seated duck with wings folded on the back decorated in various shades of iron-red, green, blue, brown and black enamels and gilt, the cover cleverly modelled as part of the wings, the incense burner aperture shaped as a stylised shippo pattern, minute chip, with wood box signed and sealed by second generation Makuzu Kozan, and bearing the inscription made during the first generation of Makuzu Kozan at age 75 in the style of Ninsei, and red seal Teishitsu gigein [official Meiji Court craftsman]
