The first of a mask of Okame smiling broadly, the striations in the grain of the ivory forming a highlight on one cheek, signed Shinkeisai, Edo period (19th century); the second of a karasu tengu and a Hannya mask on a brocade cushion in a tray, a depression in the centre of the cushion pierced to take the himotoshi stud, the hole surrounded by lotus petals, the outer skin of the narwhal provides richly coloured striations in the patina, Edo period (late 18th/early 19th century)
