Lot Essay

Compare the similar lacquer tea caddy with pewter tea cannister exhibited, A Tale of Three Cities, Canton, Shanghai & Hong Kong, London, 1997, Catalogue, no.305. This caddy differs from the present lot in that around the sides scenes of tea production are depicted, with a Chinese port scene on the top; however, the inside of the lid, and the stipple engraving on the pewter are very similar.
