The present drawing bears the familiar 'F mark' as described by A.P. Oppé in Sandby Drawings at Windsor Castle, London, 1947, p. 20. This inscription is found on a large number of Sandby drawings, the majority of which passed directly from the artist to William Sandby, a descendant and author of Thomas and Paul Sandby, Royal Academicians, 1892.

A drawing in the Royal Collection at Windsor also bears the inscription 'FH' and Oppé concludes that the 'H' was added by someone who believed the drawing to be by Francis Hayman (c. 1708-1776). This is very likely to apply to the present drawing and to the following Sandby.
