George Goodwin Kilburne's interiors depicting contemporary family life and figures in 17th-century costume, became immensely popular around the turn of the century, and were widely reproduced through engravings. Having been apprenticed to the Dalziel brothers for five years, Kilburne also contributed to Punch, the Windsor Magazine, the Quiver, and the English Illustrated Magazine. His work was frequently seen at the Royal Academy, the Royal Society of British Artists, the New Watercolour Society, the Grosvenor Gallery and elsewhere.
