Lot Essay
This spring scene was painted in 1887 and was taken near the Allingham's house at Sandhills, Witley, Surrey. Although the original footbridge is long gone, it has been replaced and is still the only way to cross the Tig. Tig Bridge was illustrated in Happy England, published by A. & C. Black in 1903. At that time the watercolour was owned by E.S. Curwen.
