Jutsum was a painter of landscape who, although he devoted himself for a time to painting in watercolour, later turned to painting exclusively in oil. He was elected a member of the New Watercolour Society in 1843, and exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1836-1868. His work was always popular: The Noonday Walk was engraved for the Art Journal, and purchased for the Royal Collection.
