Lot Essay

Situated outside the gates of Blenheim Palace, built by Vanbrugh and Hawksmoor for the first Duke of Marlborough, the Oxfordshire market town of Woodstock contains a number of fine buildings. The Marlborough Arms still stands and is recorded by Pevsner, who also describes various houses in the Market Place.
