Original red morocco by Sangorski & Sutcliffe after a design by Lynton Lamb, tooling by Ted Turner, covers with eight horizintal bands of five gilt and five blind fillets, interspersed with crowns and initails ER, the upper cover with central white morocco lozenge inlay with Royal arms surmounted by cypher, dated 1953 below, lower cover with central gilt stamped arms of the Oxford University Press, dated 1953, spine in seven compartments with raised bands, lettered in four, turn-ins ruled in gilt and blind, vellum doublures and fly-leaves, gilt tooled dedication on front doublure, g.e. Provenance: Church of St.John's, Bedford (binding, dedication dated 1958); Bishop Bill Burnett, Cape Town (inscription); Bishop Paul Khoarai of Leribe, Lesotho (inscription dated 1975); Sir John G. Hodgson, Washington, D.C. (inscription); Mr. & Mrs.Torossian (inscription, dated 1976).
'OXFORD CORONATION LECTERN' EDITION, ONE OF 100 COPIES ON NASH PAPER, SPECIALLY BOUND. This one of very few copies of the Queen Elizabeth II Bible on Nash paper with the Royal arms on the upper cover (the binding identical to that on the copies presented to Her Majesty The Queen in celebration of her Coronation). See previous lot for details of the production of the work. Of the 25 copies on India paper, at least one other was bound in an identical binding to the royal presentation binding [see Major J.R.Abbey's copy, sale Sotheby's, 19 Oct. 1970, lot 2660], others substituted the Royal arms on the upper cover for a crowned E II R cypher. This appears to be only the second copy on Nash paper with the Royal arms (see sale these rooms 28 Nov. 1990).
