The frosted gilt garde temps chain fusee movement with Earnshaw escapement and spring detent with jewelled locking stone, Harrison's maintaining power, free sprung bimetallic balance with gold peripheral screws and cylindrical weights, blued steel helical spiral with endcurves, diamond endstone, dust shroud to the winding arbor, the matt silver dial with Roman numerals, large subsidiary seconds, blued steel moon hands, in plain silver openface case, the bezel and back cover with gold hinges, snap on dust cover numbered 3595B 313, indistinct casemaker's mark, with Breguet Certificate No. 3709 issued Paris, 19 October 1981 and dated 23 Janvier 1821, dial and movement signed, case numbered

Lot Essay

The Breguet Certificate states that No. 3595 was sold to Envoyée à Ducon 23 Janvier 1821 for 1,220 Francs. Ducon was Breguet's agent in Bordeaux.
On the reverse of the dial are the following repairer's marks:
(a) Charles Leuton Du Bois, Horloger à Fleurier, Le 7 Decembre 1839; (b) Chs. Augte Rosselet: horloger, Fleurier le 10 Decembre 1863;
(c) Jles Fortier, 3 June 1870, Havre. Tardy records him at Quai d'Orlean; and
(d) H. Krugerila, Fr. Kroner. Hannova 4.II.1975.
The present watch is of the third series. A similar movement No. 4873 is illustrated in George Daniels, The Art of Breguet, Sotheby Parke Bernet 1975, page 287, plate 3621-b. The balance of No. 4873 is similar to that at No. 3595 but without the circular heat compensation weights.
