Lot Essay

This bacchic egg-shaped, thyrus-finialed and laurel-wreathed vases have vine-stem handles emerging from vine-festooned heads of nymphs or bacchantae. Their form and 'herm' handles relate to vase patterns published in Marie-Thérèse Reboul Vien's Suite de Vases Composée dans le Goût de l'Antique. Dessinée Par Joseph Marie Vien, Paris, 1760.
