A FINE AND RARE PAIR OF CHINESE ENAMELLED CRANES
Late 18th Century
Modelled standing looking alertly to the left and right, the heads with iron-red crests and long green beaks, the neck and bodies moulded with plumage elaborately over-decorated in gilding, the legs green, both standing astride richly variegated blue, green and pink streaky rockwork, one with body crack, other with beak restored

Lot Essay

A very similar pair of cranes from the collection of Dame Ethel Locke-King, DBE, was sold in London 23 June 1953, lot 101; another pair, from the collection of Majorie, Lady Russell, was sold in these Rooms, 26 October 1964, lot 50.
