Decorated overall with geometrical panels within amaranth and boxwood Greek key-borders, the stepped breakfront brêche d'Alep marble top above two drawers decorated sans traverse as three simulated panels, the sides conformingly inlaid above cabriole legs headed by foliate and scrolled mounts and on scrolled acanthus sabots headed by a husk-trail, Stamped twice 'J. F. OEBEN' and 'JME' to the top of carcase

The inventory taken after the death of Jean-Franois Oeben in 1763 describes the following commode which corresponds very closely to this commode:
'Une commode de 27 pouces de long sur 30 pouces de haut, 16 pouces de profondeur, plaquée de bois de rose à compartiments de bois d'amaranthe et filets noirs et blancs, ornée de cinq petits anneaux à rosettes, une petite suspente quatre pieds et deux chutes de bronze sans dorure, avec son dessus de marbre de brèche d'Alep, prisée 150 liv.'.
