Lot Essay

La petite Marie was cast in two versions: one with arms and one without. Both versions were cast by Maillol at the Alexis Rudier foundry in a numbered edition of six, in 1925. Dina Vierny, who was the executor of Maillol's estate, arranged the sale of this piece through Perls Galleries, New York in 1968.

Madame Dina Vierny has kindly confirmed the authenticity of this work in a letter dated Paris, le 17 avril 1997.
