Lot Essay

In 1959 Calder was commissioned to create a mobile for the Chase-Manhattan Bank of New York, for which this work is a maquette.

'To most people who look at a mobile, it's no more than a series a flat objects that move. To a few, though, it may be poetry'.
Alexander Calder.
