This solid-cast candlestick in the shape of a lion is reminiscent in both form and finish of contemporary aquamaniles. Although these were manufactured throughout Europe, this piece strongly resembles English depictions of lions and leopards which, when combined with the fact that the present piece was found in England, makes it highly likely that it is, itself, of English origin.
