This is an excellent example of an English candlestick of the 'Tudor' type, although it has a colour that is distinctly yellower than the more usual reddish tone seen on the other candlesticks of this group in the collection. Although it conforms to the 'chalice and paten' formation, it is noteworthy that the shape here, with its elegantly rising cone, gives a more refined silhouette than on the more typical examples, such as the two following lots.
