Lot Essay

These two candlesticks appear to have been made in Nuremberg, but designed for the Scandinavian market. Although the base is clearly of a Scandinavian design, the shafts are conceived in a typical Nuremberg baluster-pattern instead of the more familiar massive ball-knop typical of Scandinavian production. Similarly, the shafts are of lighter construction than contemporary Scandinavian pieces.
