Jan Brueghel II painted this subject several times. The most similar treatment is that in the Dulwich Picture Gallery, which Brueghel probably also painted in collaboration with Frans Francken II (K. Ertz, Jan Breughel the Younger, Freren, 1984, p. 371, no. 207). This follows the broad composition of the present panel but differs significantly in the detail of the animals, fruit and flowers. The figure of Neptune in the Dulwich picture is here replaced by that of Amphitrite (representing Water-Neptune is seen in the distance); she is accompanied by Urania (Air), Vesta (Fire-represented by Vulcan in the Dulwich panel) and Ceres (Earth), holding a cornucopia.
